The Python Package Index (PyPI) is a repository of software created for the Python language. If you’re looking for a package or a module, this is the place to find one. Any of the packages can be easily installed using PIP from the command line.

At PyPI, you can download packages OR you can post them, if you’ve written one. Since all the packages at PyPI are open source, if you install something, you can feel free to modify it to suit your needs. If you’re uploading your own package, you’ll need to create a user account, package your project appropriately, and register your project before you can upload it (click through for more details on uploading and packaging your project).

If you’re a Python developer and you’ve never visited the PyPI before, you should definitely do so. Any member of the Python community would benefit from checking out all of the cool packages and modules that are available for them there.
